Exclusive artisanal dark chocolate handcrafted from Trinitario cocoa beans harvested in the Ambanja region, the heart of the famous Sambirano Valley in northern Madagascar.
The flavor profile of Akesson’s Madagascar cocoa is unique and highly regarded by chocolatiers around the world. It is typically citrusy, especially with red fruit notes, but also offers layers of flavors and nuances such as nuts, caramel, jam, and mild pepper, with the distinct aroma of dried apricots.
This exceptional chocolate, available only in limited quantities, is further enhanced by the addition of wild, locally grown Voatsiperifera pepper. Wild pepper is rare today and is hand-harvested exclusively in the warm, humid rainforests of southeastern Madagascar, where vines climb toward the sun up to 30 meters high. The fruits grow only on young shoots and are high in water content, meaning 10 times as many fresh berries must be collected as the amount of dried pepper that is eventually produced. Annual production is reportedly just 1,500 kg.
